Holy Magazine History!!

Our spring drive was a record- for us- and for the paper company in Duluth. (it was the single biggest private load to this date)!

27,680 pounds of glossy paper was the grand total that was collected from the 2015 Earth Fest & Johnson drop off sites.  Tom K & crew had a couple of trucks & trailers for this go around!

THANK YOU to ALL-  who lent a hand for making this fundraiser a huge heaping success!  There is a lot of storing, dumping, pick-ups &  more-  (for weeks & months)- that attributes to all of this!

And skiers... Keep up the good work in school... & on the track, softball & baseball fields.  Awesome results are everywhere!

Hello Skiers:

FYI:   Check out our website (www.pepsichallengeskirace.com) for our new maps and general registration/race info.   Some things to know this year:   There will be no Hammer Gel packets at the feed stations.  You will receive one Hammer Gel at registration.  The training center is gone – skiers can meet at the lower level of The Lodge @ Giants Ridge.    We’d like to remind skiers that the upper parking lots are full before 9:00 am.   Please feel free to park in the overflow (Burnt Onion) parking lot South of the Chalet – there will be signs.   You can jump on the ski trail by the parking lot and ski to the start.

On-line registration is open until Thurs March 5th – link and info are on our website www.pepsichallengeskirace.com.

In order to be in the prize drawing, skiers have to be pre-registered.

(Lucky) Week # 13 !
Jan 31, 2015, 12:05 pm

The Mesabi East / Virginia / Eveleth-Gilbert Nordic ski train has warmed up, and is building momentum.  We've seen it happen within the last two weeks, and we are READY!

The results from yesterday's meet, were very similiar to last year's Cook County Invite- but a bit better! The girls varsity team came away with a 1st place finish, while the boys varsity team took 2nd.  Lots of skiers skied the "Pursuit" race, and many for the first time.  Got that and more done-and all the results show it.  It was a perfect tune-up, as it was our last regular season meet.  The (rest of the story) will be told at the Section 7 Meet on Thursday!

Here is the link to all the race details from the Cook County Invite.   http://www.boreal.org/~durfee/cchs_pursuit_1_30_15.pdf

These next two weeks will offer a little different scenerio for our teams.  Busier than usual, so stay well rested & well fueled!  The section teams & alternates are in place, and there is still a lot going on for ALL our team members for upcoming races & events.

Here is what we are looking at for week # 13, heading into the final stretches of our team's season adventure ....

Mon Feb. 2,   V / JV:  bring skate & classic every day.    JH / Newbie Team:  Skate & Classic

Tue. Feb. 3,   V/JV: skate & classic. JH / Newbie Team:  Skate & Classic.  Jr. Nordic Club session today- 4pm.

Wed. Feb. 4,  V/JV: wax prep will start at 2 pm. JH/Newbie Team: Skate & Classic.  Pasta Dinner for entire team in Timing Building.

Thurs. Feb. 5,  Section 7 Meet. Giant's Ridge. 11 am.  Skiers arrive at 9 am.  Team Camp in Lodge.

** NOTE TIME CHANGE  to 11 am start ** due to cold morning temps

Friday, Feb. 6, V/JV/JH/Newbie Team practice.

Some other noteworthy news....

Skinnyski has just posted it's annual premonitions about this upcoming week's Minnesota section championships.

** Section 7 Thu Feb 5 at Giants Ridge (Biwabik)**
The Northern powers always provide some tough team racing.  Goliath Duluth East has generally ruled, but not without challenges from the David's of the section, Ely and Mesabi East.  The Duluth East boys got a little wakeup call from Mesabi at the conference championships and should bring their A-game to sections to take the title, with Mesabi East coming in second.  Duluth East girls have been moving up, but this one could be extremely close as Mesabi East, Grand Rapids and maybe even Cloquet-Esko-Carlton all take a run at the championship.  Anna Johnson, Mesabi East, appears to be on form, but will receive pressure from a number of girls for the individual title.  The boys title should be very tight as well, with Seth Prigge, Ely, hoping for some recovery from the conference championships, as both Keaton Long, Duluth East, and Reed Melicher, Mesabi East, will be making bids for the top of podium. Read all the previews for all the sections at: http://www.skinnyski.com/

* Down the calendar for the following week, (besides daily practice) & more ....   Mon, 2/9- JH / JV championships at Spirit Mtn, Tues, 2/10- Decorating at Mesabi East School cafeteria for the MSHSL Nordic State Ski Banquet / Program; Wed, 2/11 - Charlie Banks Relays at Giant's Ridge; State Meet Banquet / Program (ME school); Thurs, 2/12- MSHSL Nordic State Meet; Hot Dog Roast on the trails - TBD, Team Banquet - March.

* To all of our ski fans- the ME / VA / EG booster club, parents, grandparents, siblings & friends, team photo guy- RK, and the staff at Giant's Ridge (John, Todd, Deb, Chris, Craig) .... a big - THANK YOU - for all your ongoing & upcoming support, as we near the end of our season.  None of our team's fun & success would happen with out YOU!
