Week 2: Winter is here!
Nov 15, 2015, 8:29 pm

Update as of Sun Nov 22

Hello from West Yellowstone! The snow is incredible & the skiing - fantastic!

Two things in regardS to WY. 1) make a plan to come next year!

                                                   2) Snow - we'll bring some back!

Short Week for the Team for # 3

Monday, Nov 23 regular practice   * EG school board meeting, 5 pm *

Tuesday, Nov 24 regular practice

Wednesday, Nov 25 - Friday, Nov 27: NO PRACTICE

(keep your fitness routine going)

Week 1 is done, and we are tyring to keep up with all the nuances a new sport season brings!

Remembering names is on the list for us coaches!  Our roster is being compiled yet, and every school is shining bright with skiers.

ME - 30, VA - 16, EG - 13.

The snowfall was a hit- we were all suprised at how much accumulated on the trails.

With that being said, it was a wake up call, that winter is coming.  Being prepared for practice (hats, gloves, jackets, woolies, etc.) is a necessity for skiing.

We are outside 99% the time, so that is the daily gear to bring.  YOGA will happen on Wednesday, but we'll do our outside thing first.

Giant's Ridge Chalet is our practice meeting place from here on out.

* The transportation for the EG skiers is still in limbo.  We're hoping for asap answers from our sport cooperative representatives. *

*FORMS of every kind, still need to be turned in.  Please check w/ your skier on this *

This week will also bring about:

- Equipment Issue to new skiers

- Race Uniforms & Warm-ups

Some misc. info:

- Ski Bags: (needed sooner than later) The team ordered in some bags. If you'd like one, they are $20.00 each. Checks payable to ME/VA/EG Nordic Boosters. You can buy them online, and at any ski shop, including the GR Snow Shop.

The bag should be a Nordic / Cross Country bag (not Alpine) & at least 210 cm. in length.  The bag will contain your skier's skis & poles, and left at GR in locked storage, and transport to & from ski meets.

Ski boots need  to be brought home daily.  If you cannot purchase a bag, please let one of the coaches know.

- Waist  Water Bottle Carriers:  Skiers were given an order form for 2 types of TOKO brand water bottle systems- Thermo Drink Belts & Water Bottle Waist Belt.

This is an optional purchase, orders are due Wednesday, Nov. 18th.

- Team Jacket Orders:   New style / design for our team this season.  Black puffy (down) jackets that will have the ME / VA / EG  logo / embroidery on the back.

Cost per jacket:  $ 50 for skiers, $84 for parents.  Sample sizes XS-2XL are available to try on at practice. This is an optional purchase also.

Order forms will be sent home with your skier on Tuesday, and in your emails this week.   Orders & payment are due on Tuesday, Nov. 24th.

Thank you for emailing & calling with questions.  There is a lot of information to take in!

We're off & ... hope to be skiing SOON!
Nov 6, 2015, 8:04 pm

Welcome to the  2015 /16 ME / VA / EG NORDIC SKI TEAM!

Ok, we can cross the preseason meeting off our list and move on to the first week of practice!

It was great to see so many new & veteran skiers!

We are all looking forward to a super fun & successful season!

IF you do your snow dance on a daily basis, the less dry land training we'll all endure...!

For a couple of weeks, our practice schedule will be listed here, so everyone can get a feel for what we do.

Changes & short notice updates will be listed more frequently on the team Facebook page , and with the App   "Remind 101".

Emails are also a needed communication tool.  Please include parents & skiers emails- on the info forms.

Dryland Training will be a mixture of trail running, heavies, bounding, Yoga, Insanity, Ultimate Frisbee, etc.

  1) running shoes

  2) water bottle

  3) hat, gloves, tights, jacket, etc.

  4) your smiley face

Practices are held at Giant's Ridge, 4pm -5:45 pm.  There are a few exceptions.  Meet in the Chalet.

Transportation to Giant's Ridge:  VA skiers will board the bus outside door # 6 after school.  EG skiers go to the Gilbert Jr. High School, and get picked up by the VA bus.  (EG- check w/ your AD, to confirm this plan) This bus will make the same return route  after practice. ME skiers will ride bus # 5 to Giant's Ridge and arrive there around 3:20.  ME parents need to pick up their skier from GR.

 * Transportation UPDATE * :  As of Tuesday, Nov. 10th, there will not be any bus service for the EG skiers.  An agreeement / solution is being addressed by the ME / VA / EG administration.  Please be patient.

SWIMMERS - We know you're still swimming! Good Luck at Sections.  We'll see you after the swim season, and after you take a breather...

These incoming weeks will also consist of more forms (trail passes, team jackets, hats, etc.)  along with equipment & race suit / warm-up issue.

Bring a piece of BLAZE ORANGE to wear.  We will also have some on hand.

Tuesday,    Nov. 10th. - opening day of practice.  Giant's Ridge. Be ready to hit the trails.

**  CLEARANCE slips are needed  **

Wednesday, Nov. 11th - 4 pm, at Mesabi East School. YOGA. Mat or towel needed.

Also running shoes & outside gear.

On top of that - they are great kids to hang with! All that garners a big SHOUT OUT & THANK YOU to the parents- who guide, encourage & support them, all year long, in ALL their endeavors !!
